DCAWG Cadet Competition (CWCC) – DEADLINE 25 APRIL 2024
Staff Positions
In order for this event to be successful, we need both cadet and senior member volunteers. We need senior members that can serve as support staff (logistics, safety, public affairs), scorekeepers, judges and marshals. Cadets are needed for Cadet Adjutant, judges and Cadet Operation Assistants. We will conduct interviews for the Cadet Adjutant position in April.
If you are able to assist, please e-mail the Activity Director, Lt Col Michael Samuel, at michael.samuel@cawgcap.org, with the position(s) you would like to volunteer for and include past cadet competition experience.

CAWG AE Event — Aerospace Education STEM Academy (AESA)

AESA is designed to provide cadets with hands-on experience in aerospace and STEM fields, fostering their growth and knowledge in these critical areas. We believe that the program will significantly contribute to the development of future leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Activities to Include:
- Aerospace/ STEM career exploration
- Professional and social networking
- Military tours
- Model rocketry
- STEM kits
- Exclusive tours of the F-22, F-35, & Ordnance Explosive Dept.
- Engaging guest speakers from the aerospace industry
- An exciting chance to ride on a C-130 aircraft
- In-depth study and hands-on experiences with STEM kits, including Flight Simulators, Robotics, Kerbal, Astronomy, Drones, and more

California Wing’s 2024 AESA is now accepting applications for cadet cadre. AESA is one of the most unique, challenging, and rewarding learning experiences a cadet can have in CAWG. All cadre members will have the opportunity to participate in tours at Edwards AFB and classroom instruction when not performing their primary staff duties, as well as earn credit for the STEM badge.
Listed below are the positions we need to fill to make this event successful, and some of the duties expected of each position.
– Cadet Commander. Oversees all cadet activities during the planning and execution of the AESA program. Assists the commandant with selecting cadre and organizing training for all positions. Helps establish and monitor goals for direct subordinates to ensure effective completion of AESA goals and appropriateness of environment for attendees.
– Deputy Commander for Operations. Oversees seminar leaders and cadet activities, including training the seminar leaders, and facilitates an appropriate for attendees. Organizes cadet activities outside of scheduled classes and tours.
– Deputy Commander for Support. Oversees cadet support staff in execution of duties, including establishing deliverables for each department and monitoring completion of such. Works with cadet commander and commandant to ensure subordinates are equipped and able to accomplish their duties.
– Safety Officer. Works with SM counterpart to anticipate and manage risks associated with the activity to reduce or eliminate preventable safety incidents.
– Seminar Leader (6). Responsible for leading and mentoring a flight of cadets for the duration of the week. This will include assisting them with assigned work and monitoring their wellbeing at all times. Will also be assisting STEM class instructors with any STEM kit projects during class periods.
– Public Affairs (3). Collect and create media (photos, videos, etc.) to document and showcase the events at AESA for public awareness. Will work and coordinate with the Public Affairs SM any social media posts for publication during AESA. Includes one member designated as the (NC)OIC.
– Logistics (3). Will work with the Logistics SM for the facilitation of requisitions, assisting with the accountability for items, and distribution of material requirements for AESA. Will also include general support duties. Includes one member designated as the (NC)OIC.
– Administrative Officer. Assists SM counterpart with management of paperwork and personnel requirements of AESA, including correct registration of attendees and check-in/check-out on the bookends of the event.
– Communications Officer. Manages communication requirements of AESA, including development and implementation of event radio channel plan, tracking of radios and assignments, and consolidation of contact information.
Cadets interested in serving on cadre will submit a resume and cover letter in PDF format to Capt Austin McCoy at Austin.mccoy@cawgcap.org. Your application should state what position you are applying for and be submitted with the approval of your unit commander (indicated by including them in the CC line when emailing). Your cover letter should be in the Business Style Letter format (from CAPP 1-2), and address what you hope to gain in the position you are applying for, along with a statement or two about your leadership philosophy. Previous AESA experience is preferred, but not required (except for executive cadre positions). Also indicate if you have obtained any level of the STEM or Cyber badges and what experience you have (if any) with CAP STEM kits. Applicants may be asked to participate in a Teams interview with the senior staff. The executive cadre application deadline is Apr 28 at 23:59 PDT.
The deadline for all other positions is May 5th at 23:59 PDT.

- Graduation from Encampment
- Grade of C/A1C or above
- Have the approval of your Squadron Commander
- Be available for pre-event virtual meetings.
- Understand that individuals’ phones will not be available at certain times due to the Base Security protocols.
- Be willing to provide your full name, place of birth, social security number, and if over 16 years old, your CA Driver’s license or CA ID card number.
- Be a United States citizen.
Waivers to above requirements will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
